Reasons for not Using an Open Source System

A majority of open source systems have not been created for the corporate environment. They would lack useful components that e-learning vendors have built in. Items such as tracking the requisite courses, keeping an education record and built in connectors to Human Resource systems have not been made readily available in open source systems.

These modules that have been made available are relatively new and not adequately tested in the corporate environment. The language usage would be yet another problem. A majority of systems had started as university systems and could make use of language that has been consistent with the academic world and not the corporate environment.
